Starving Artists — August 13, 2012

Starving Artists

I don’t believe there are any.  Starving Artists.  Not really.  I mean, we say we’re scraping by, or “broke”, but I haven’t seen any distended bellies (except for beer bellies) on artists around here.  We’re rich.  Our bellies are full (too full, most of the time.)    And even if our bank account isn’t pretty, the great thing is, God gave us TALENT, and that’s why this blog is here.  So we can sell it.  And give.  And maybe we can make sure one mother doesn’t have to watch her baby starve tomorrow.  Now here’s the part that will make this blog super popular.  Guilt trips!  My specialty.  Because God’s pretty clear about what He wants from us.

Malachi 3:8 “Will a mere mortal rob God? Yet you rob me.

“But you ask, ‘How are we robbing you?’

“In tithes and offerings. You are under a curse—your whole nation—because you are robbing me. 10 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.11 I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the vines in your fields will not drop their fruit before it is ripe,” says the Lord Almighty. 12 “Then all the nations will call you blessed, for yours will be a delightful land,” says the LordAlmighty.

Favorite Chair —

Favorite Chair

This chair was given to me in sorry shape, but she had such good bones I couldn’t pass her up.  She’d been sitting in a downtown warehouse, neglected and left behind for who knows how long, until someone came along with a love of antiques, a 7 yard remnant of amazing velvet, and an apartment with nothing but a sofa.

Fast forward a few years, add kids, a dog, and a house in the suburbs.  My chair is too cool for me.  It needs a new home…one with a formal living room that doesn’t also double as a Thomas the Train playroom.  Or maybe a master bedroom that needs a lovely chair in the corner to read in.  If you’re wondering if this classifies as my “art”….well, my art was textiles, and this is RICH velvet.  Not to mention the art of whoever created her in the first place.  Nice job, unnamed craftsman.

Click here to buy her.  All the proceeds will go to Voice of the Martyrs on this one.

Before the Kiss Painting

Greecian Kiss Painting

This is one of my favorite paintings, but, I must admit, not one I painted myself (although I’ve been tempting to take the credit for it numerous times!)  I purchased this painting back when I was a cool world traveler and had it custom framed in the US.  So, I’m going to say that my stellar eye for excellent framing is my claim to the “art” in this piece.  It’s currently living in my bedroom, but it’s been in a place of honor over the fireplace for years.  It’s unsigned, and I don’t know the artist.  If it turns out to be worth millions, please don’t let me know.  100% of the proceeds will go to Compassion International to help the poor and orphans.

Why we’re here. — August 10, 2012

Why we’re here.

This blog is for artists, and for people who love art,  and for the orphan.  A blog created to feature beautiful “good works” by many artists, each sold with all profits going to support orphans and the poor.    For now, I’ll be posting some of my own pieces for sale, and featuring my favorite non-profit organizations for helping the fatherless and the destitute.

If you would like to be a part of the Guild, please send me your pieces and I’ll link up!  Fine art, furniture, clothing, whatever your “good work” is, feel free to share!  You can even donate your works services…web design, custom art, etc.!   This will, of course, be an honor system…the only criteria is that all profit goes to the orphans and each artist is responsible for their own work.

Ephesians 2:10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus, to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Because most of all, this blog is for God.  To honor him with our works.
